Written by Jessie Richards Businesses will increasingly set up technology to support remote operations as they attempt to become more environmentally-friendly, according to an expert. Clive Longbottom, principal analyst at Quocirca, writing for ZDNet says flexible working will be an important part of green strategies for firms looking to be more eco-conscious as well as save money. "IT departments will need to manage and provide the technology for remote workers - virtual private networks, IP phones, PCs and software," he states, which could require companies to seek London IT support. Flexibility will be a watchword for green business and companies are likely to look to virtualisation as a way of becoming more eco-friendly. "Outsourcing the datacentre to an external hosting company can be even greener," he suggests. Meanwhile, the European Commission has announced an environmentally-friendly IT strategy which aims to ensure emission reductions of 15 per cent by 2020. Vivian Reding, commissioner for Information Society and Media, said there is "untapped potential" for saving energy in the ICT sector. ![]() |
