Data protection helps to sustain essential processes, says guru
Written by Jenny Smith

Businesses must ensure that they invest time and money in data protection as any lack of availability will mean essential business processes are unable to continue, according to an expert.

Andrew Brewerton, technical director at BakBone Software, says more and more information is becoming "mission critical" to organisations of all sizes.

This data may be unstructured, contained within databases or form part of an application such as Microsoft Exchange Server.

Any information can be classed as "mission critical", regardless of its location, meaning that it will be detrimental to the company if it is inaccessible, explains Mr Brewerton, suggesting the need for London IT support to correct any data issues.

"As companies come to rely on this data, any level of unavailability will mean the essential business processes are unable to continue - and this often has a direct impact on the revenue of the organisation," he adds.

BakBone Software's recent survey found that there have been 1,034 reported incidents involving the loss of data since 2005, with around 280 million people affected.
