Written by Jenny Smith UK small business IT should increase education on internet security, it has been claimed. According to Spencer Kelly, presenter of flagship BBC technology programme Click, cyber crime will never be completely wiped out but individual online users can do more to protect themselves. Speaking at the Gartner Information Security Summit, he commented: "More cooperation between the authorities across borders and more education [would help in the fight against cyber crime]. If we can educate home users then maybe we can install a new level of common sense." Mr Kelly went on to say that there is a great deal of money to be made through internet attacks and organised criminals are becoming increasingly involved due to this. Figures released earlier this week by Gartner indicate that the worldwide security software market will total $14.5 billion (£8.9 billion) by the end of 2009, an eight per cent increase on last year. ![]() |
