Posted by Louise Tate Websites need to work harder to attract customers as broadband speeds continue to grow, an expert has said, which may show the need for IT consultancy services. Recent figures from broadband.co.uk revealed that the average speed increased from 3.667Mbps at the beginning of 2009 to 4.4478Mbps by the end, showing a rise of 22 per cent. Commenting on the findings, Leigh Whitney, managing director of digital agency Design UK, noted that as broadband speeds rise, the patience of individual internet users with websites is falling. "A website must be able to get visitors to the information that they are looking for and allow them to consume that content easily and in an engaging way," he explained. Mr Whitney also said that companies must design their websites to meet the needs of different kinds of internet users, such as 'explorers' who like browsing, 'hunters' looking for a certain kind of product and 'trackers' searching for a specific item. ![]() |
