Posted by Jessie Richards The development of Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology has helped BT retain customers, according to its director of group industry policy. Simon Milner said the best way for businesses to respond to disruptive consumer behaviour is to keep innovating. He cited VoIP – which allows businesses to make cheap web-based calls, both domestically and internationally – as being a recent example of product development success. "Coming up with really innovative new approaches to voice is an important part of what we and BT are going to do," Mr Milner said. According to analyst firm Frost & Sullivan, the global VoIP market will continue on an upward curve during 2010, after witnessing recession-defying growth last year. The market recorded a 40.1 per cent growth in user base and a 22.3 per cent increase in revenues during 2009, researchers found, as more businesses upgraded their telephony infrastructures or outsourced communication services. ![]() |
