Posted by Steven Gaskill Those companies which are covered by the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme must register before September 30th if they are to avoid fines, it has been claimed, which could interest IT outsourcing in London users. At present fewer than one in four companies affected by the legislation has taken this step and awareness of the initiative within IT functions is almost non-existent, Greenocity Ltd has asserted. The top three areas of power consumption for many companies are heating or cooling, lighting and plug load – all of which could be reduced by the use of an IT outsourcing in London provider. Server rooms, for example, consume more than one and a half times the cost of running the hardware in cooling costs alone, the group claimed. Recent IDC figures have shown that companies are likely to spend approximately 5.2 per cent more on IT hardware over the next 12 months, with key factors including software sales, a hardware refresh and service backlogs contributing to this trend. ![]() |
