While cloud computing has a large number of benefits to companies, one tech expert says that IT security solutions firms are also relishing its existence because it can lead to increased opportunities for them. Tony McDowell, managing director of Encription.co.uk, said that implementing cloud-based systems has pros and cons and it is those cons which open doors for security firms to provide their solutions. "We love the cloud because it's going to introduce so many more problems," he stated. "If you're an SME (small to medium-sized enterprise) and sign up to a cloud system, is the data - which previously was staying within your organisation - when it goes to the cloud, is it encrypted? "If it is encrypted, what level is it encrypted to? If it's only encrypted to 112 bits - hackers like us can crack it quite easily. If it's 256-bit encryption that's Ministry of Defence standard - that's a different story. So the cloud introduces a whole new range of problems." A recent study conducted in the United States found that nine of ten business (91 per cent) leaders are in favour of using the cloud in some form as part of their day to day operations.
