WhatsApp Launches Money Transfers via Novi Crypto Wallet

Brief:

  • Meta (Facebook) integrated Novi wallet into WhatsApp chat
  • So far, this is a pilot project for US residents
  • If everything goes well, the messenger will be able to send transfers all over the world

WhatsApp has launched a pilot project to test how transfers through the Novi crypto wallet work. The first US users will be able to send and receive money directly from the chat. The currency is USDP, a stablecoin from Paxos.

There’s a new way to try the @Novi digital wallet. Starting today, a limited number of people in the US will be able to send and receive money using Novi on @WhatsApp, making sending money to family and friends as easy as sending a message. 💸💬 pic.twitter.com/dGz3lejri7

The site states that the service does not take any commissions. In addition, an unlimited number of transactions can be made per day. Money is credited instantly. The company guarantees the security and confidentiality of data.

How the project appeared

The idea of payments via messengers is not new. The first to do this was the social network Vkontakte 5 years ago. But her project did not become popular due to problems with the partner bank.

Stablecoins are the turning point on which Novi’s success is based. USDP, or Pax Dollars, became the first cryptocurrency in this wallet. It is pegged to the US dollar. It is not yet known when other currencies will appear here. Novi project manager Stefan Kasriel said the program is still at an early stage. First of all, they want to test the payment system and collect user opinions.
